About Edward
Edward didn't plan on a career in hardware. He spent nearly a decade in international logistics, moving high-value goods across borders, often under heavy regulation and against tight deadlines. When COVID hit, he kept his supply chains running while many others stalled. Those years showed him what holds up under pressure, and how little slack there is in the system. In the evenings he was teaching himself electronics, and it was fast becoming an obsession.
Logistics and electronics fit together better than he expected. The first product Edward designed sold tens of thousands of units, partly because the design was sound and partly because he knew how to get it manufactured and shipped. That second part is where a lot of hardware projects fail, long before anyone gets to use them. After that first product, hardware became his career, and it led to his current role as CTO of LurraPay, where he heads development of the company's hardware wallet. He brings a background in secure computing and a strong privacy instinct to the job.
Alongside LurraPay he is building Ara, a personal project making secure communications hardware. He thinks private communication should be easy enough for anyone to use, not only people with the know-how to set it up, and Ara is his attempt to get there.
He also founded Erid Game Studios, an independent studio that has been building a real-time strategy game since January 2023, after 22 years of playing the genre himself. Its AI opponent studies how you play and adapts to you. He started Erid because he felt the big studios had stopped listening to the people playing their games.
Everything he builds comes back to one idea. If a device is in your hand, it should answer to you.
For most of his life Edward has been told that his head is in the clouds and he should come back down to Earth. He never did, and has no plans to. Science fiction gave him a future worth aiming for. Stargate, The Orville and Project Hail Mary are favourites, stories about clever people working through hard problems with a stubborn belief that good engineering and decent intentions can make things better. Given the chance he wants to go to space himself, on a sub-orbital flight at the very least, and to walk on the Moon if that ever comes within reach.
Off the clock he reads constantly, often finishing a whole book in a day, and he loves opera, theatre and musicals. He will also keep arguing for privacy long after the polite moment to drop it has passed.
